Saturday 10/06/07

This morning there are very few signs for sales near my home but I set off on bike to see what I can discover if I found nothing at least I would have a pleasant bike ride.

Whiteford Ave. - Edgewood "Yard Sale"
I was expecting this sale on Whiteford to be a little larger from the ad placed in Craigslist. Here I found a somewhat bored looking fellow looking over his goods in the yard of his small frame home. Among the stuff here were old comics and graphic novels, a drum with some obscene language spray painted on it, one of those ugly Xmas nutcrackers, some electric music peripherals, wicker baskets and a collection of small ceramic horses.
Among some books were “Jane Eyre”, “Ya Yas in Bloom”, ”Broca’s Brain”, “Chaos” “Georgiana” and “The Promise of Wisdom”.
An assortment of stuff could be seen in plastic bins one held a copy of the Bad Girl’s calendar and some plastic leis; another held plush toys and a box of hair dye.
I bought nothing.

Hair dye and plush animals for 25 cents.

Drum with foul language and graphic novels.

Waverly Way – Inman Park “Yard Sale”

I came across this sale while cruising on my bike through the tree-lined streets of Inman Park. Here a young man and woman casually watched over an assortment of things upon the grass and on tables. Like the prior sale in Edgewood I found more musical apparatus. Here was a four-track recorder and a metronome two devices from different bygone eras near each other on a table. On another table were a lava lamp, a fan, an ashtray and an electric toothbrush. On a rack of women’s clothes I found a cheerleaders outfit from Decatur High School. On a third table were some small plastic horses, novelty buttons and a massive bolt nearly a foot long.
I bought nothing.

Old and not so old musical devices found together.

Hi. Love your blog. I guess I, too, am an addict. I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, the quest for quality for less. Am originally from Miami, Fl, but have been in ATL for little over a year. Tell me, where are THE BEST areas for Garage/yard/estste sales? I am still trying to figure this big city out!! Thanks!!

Cool blog. I especially like the photos.

Some friends of mine have started GoYarding.com, you might want to check it out and give them suggestions.

In regards to Shawn's comment:
I don't know what area of Atlanta you live in and the metro area is quite extensive but I have found that the inside the perimeter east side to be a never ending source of remarkable sales. It all depends on what you are looking for. In the past year I have found Cabbagetown and Kirkwood quite interesting. Decatur proper also has a lot of variety from families with kids, to octogenarians, to your choice of any given subculture.
I would pick one intown neighborhood one saturday and just savor the flavor of the divestments. Then try another neighborhood the next week. If you like what you see in this web site why not come down to the Lake Claire/Candler Park area.

This is a pretty sweet blog.. My friend (Bernard) pointed it out to me after he posted a comment about my new site (thanks bernard!). I love the photo of the "Vanilla Ice Game"! I had no idea he had a game... I guess we'll buy anything!

As for my site.. I'm still developing it so I hope I didn't disappoint too bad.. I enabled the Atlanta area this morning so if you want to see the local yard sales try this link.. Atlanta Yard Sales

Thanks and nice site!

Yard Sale Addict, Bernard and Gary:

Thank you for all of the Garage Sale 411!!! Now, how far is Candler Park and Lake Claire from Tucker? I do have an idea where Five Points is (off of Briarcliff and 78/Ponce, right?) Sorry, but I lived in Gwinnett County, near Suwanee, for the past year and recently moved to the Tucker area. Thanks for all!!

Shawn,
Make your way into town on 78. The neighborhoods between the city of Decatur and downtown Atlanta are where I roam on Saturday mornings. Start looking for signs and go from there. I would start around Clairmont and Scott Blvd. Part of the joy of the search is never nowing what you are going to find or where the sign may lead you. If you want to explore Lake Claire Candler park wander down Mclendon Ave.(the one in Atlanta not Scottdale)

Thank you so much, Yard Sale Addict!! I will follow that route next for weekend. I did happen upon one near Ansley Mall (merely by chance) and there was a $.25, a $.50 and a $1.00 box, with some good things inside. I thought of your site, when I saw the items in the boxes:)!!

Hello Tom, I would like to suggest a site for your links column. I created a website http://www.garagesalestracker.com
that has a lot of features that can benefit both garage sale buyers and sellers.

If you like the site and think its deserving of a link on your website, please let me know once you have linked to it.

Thanks David
